Global trade isn't dying because the price of gasoline is going through the roof and the supply of it is shrinking at a furious rate. But global trade will have to change it's focus from mass shipping to specific ordered shipping. For more details about this idea, read the article of Reaching The Goal for July 2008 www.mcrgroup.net/main.cfm?id=7265B5DD-B6A7-8AA0-6D53CA3FC3D66DE8

We talk about the use of the internet to find locally produced goods, locally grown or raise food and retailers who are trying to offer such products but it is easier said than done! The Canadian Government allows companies to label something Canadian if 60% of the selling price originates in Canada. This includes shipping, repackaging and mark-up.

We have based our whole way of doing business on the fact that we can transport things almost anywhere in the world cheaply. If we convince even a small part of western society to buy locally, won't we undermine our global economy?
These things we buy from the pacific rim serve to provide income for people who have no other source of livelihood. What happens if we undermine that?
